THERE IS SOMETHING THERE

(not ready for the Big Push yet. you'll know.)
ktjayne: (hmm)
Hammering out sketches. Tinkering with CSS (well, plugging in color codes and seeing what happens).

DOING things, gosh darn it.

really.

...whoa.

Okay. So I did a quick survey of one old binder and used that data to... extrapolate? I think that's the word.

Taking into account that there's some stuff that's total crap/unsellable, and some stuff I can't bear to part with... in terms of original drawings and pages of sketches, I might be sitting on about 10 grand's worth of stuff.

(That's assuming someone would pay between 5 and 10 dollars for an aimless piece of pre-fab original art by me, once I get, uh, more well-known. People have paid more for worse.)

Not to mention there's quite a few printworthy things in there. And my whole scan-everything-so-I-can-compile-it-into-books project, which I need to get back on. Because damn.

raaaaaaaagh everything I draw is crap!

(raaaaaaagh hormones.)

I'm hung up on this one stupid stupid stupid design. Stupid stupid. Stupid.

I might delve back into one of my HUGE BOOKS OF OLD SKETCHES (seriously. huge.) and see if there's stuff I can salvage from there. Or I'll just get all depressed about how my drawing skills have somehow managed to deteriorate over the past couple years.

Either way: fun times for all! :D ;_;

I hate to jinx it, but I get the feeling that conditions will be wonderful tomorrow. Day off, everyone else is at work all day, ideas are a-flowin', comic technique is finalized... and I'm motivated. God, am I motivated.

With my luck, my new phone (yes, a new one) will arrive a day early and I'll waste the day fidgeting with it. But then I'll always have Saturday, building off a day of crazy work and a night of fine dining and opera (Pirates of Penzance!) with da goils.

But until that package arrives, I've got tomorrow. A clear kitchen table and the laptop and the scanner and a big pile of paper... some kickin' tunes...

Oh, and a good night's sleep. Best get on that last one.
ktjayne: (hmm)
I'm working. I'm working. I swear that I'm working. It's just largely non-digital. I did download the demo of Manga Studio to see if I like it. I think I need to install it on the PC, though, which has a bigger monitor (as opposed to tiny lappy display). Cos daggone all those windows and menus crowd the workspace like crazy.

I'm writing and plotting and sketching and building and pulling all my old reference photos off the old hard drive. I might dig through my paper photos and see what's good there, too. I'm juggling four stories, here, so I need to sit down a lay down the foundations of each.

I have not bought the new Rayman game yet, nor Mario Galaxy, nor the Flight of the Conchords DVD. I am two episodes behind on Heroes, even.

(In the interest of full disclosure, there was a brief resurgence of my addiction to Windows Solitaire, but that has since died down. It makes my eyes hurt.)

I still don't see why they couldn't just have an abbreviated season of 24. Think about it. A few hours of terror; then Jack eats a sandwich, takes a dump, and hits the sack to dream about reruns of Welcome Back Kotter.

You still get your full day in and people who need their belief-suspensions realigned can finally be friggin' satisfied. Everybody wins!

(Well. Except the writers. oops.

Stop being douchebags, Hollywood! Give them what they want! They promised to make Heroes stop sucking!)

Actually, to be somewhat more serious again - an interesting idea just struck me. If you scab, you're never working in the industry again. Right? Done and done, blacklisted, that's it.

But what if you never wanted to be there anyway, but you just had one really awesome (horrible) idea? Would you go for it? Just for the hell of it?

Today is a good day... to MAKE something.

I'm thinking "delicious food" and "comics" are on the agenda.

We'll see how it goes on both fronts.

When you ain't even got the energy to watch teevee, you know it's bad (in my defense my teevee watchage requires Full Alert Attention, which does take extra energy - I got like closed caption and everything going).

I had a situation today that will more than likely make its way into a comic. I have a few more floating out there but they more or less mean condemning one of my characters to a food-service job. I'm not sure I wanna wish that on anybody just yet, real or 'maginary.

(Though honestly I could do well to punch a hole in the relative 'glamour' of working in a coffee shop... meh. I'll mull it over.)

My big accomplishment for today (aside from work) was finding a trendy-sounding one-word artsy magazine title that didn't appear to be taken (if it ain't on the first page of Google, it's fair game).

So I have four pages to do tomorrow. Or, you know, however many. As long as I have 30 by the end of the month, I'm golden - part of me wants to make 'em up as soon as possible, but considering this isn't 'live' yet, I shouldn't really stress over it, should I? This is an exercise for me - to hone my skills and get myself back in fighting shape. I'm only really posting 'em to keep myself honest.

Well, and to force myself into having something out there again, I s'pose. Sometimes you can't keep waiting til you're "ready".

I, meanwhile, am ready for bed.

No page tonight, but I did post *something* anyway.

So: two tomorrow, or three Monday, or two Monday and two Tuesday.

Pressure Sensitive: "laurels aren't all that comfy anyway"

Remember, kids, this is all just practice. Practice I really really need.

(Practice with the tablet and the posting habits, anyway.)

now bed.
ktjayne: (smile)
Pressure Sensitive: "today I found a decent person"

So I'm pretty sure I'll be posting the new strips to Plain Cheese for now. Some notable notes:

- that's not me
- this is not a final version
- the name of this series - yes, it will be a series, god willing - is Pressure Sensitive. get it?

aaaagh bed.

30 days. 30 pages.

Easy, right?

...right?

I guess we'll find out!

(by the way - I'm interpreting this to mean 'one page for every day', not 'you must do one page every day' - so some days will have no pages and some willl have more than one.)

yeeeaaaaah I kinda played Portal a little today.

In my defense, a good chunk of my time today was trying to get things working. Because someone up there does not want me playing friggin' computer games, apparently (and, honestly, with good reason).

Not done yet, either, but I'm almost there. Level... 18? The one right after cube.

And of course I manage to find a bitchin' costume idea two days and zero dollars before Halloween. -_-

Oh well. If I hit up clearance, it could make for good cosplay.
ktjayne: (Default)
tentative to-do list, seeing as I have such a glut of free time:

- MOAR SKETCHIES (this is more or less a given)
- tidy oop
- finish uploading the Business As Unusual archive on WCN. I honest to god never realized I didn't finish that. eee.

I won't lie. I might sneak off and play Portal somewhere in there. Forgive me?
ktjayne: (hmm)
It may please you to know that there's been some goings-on at Plain Cheese (syndicated at [livejournal.com profile] plaincheese).

Also, I'm gonna start friending people on here, too, because... because. If it bothers anyone, I'll take 'em off. But anyhow. Yeah.

I guess it seems like more people take the initiative to 'friend back' than to just add for no reason. Or something.

word!

You can now put Plain Cheese on your friends list by adding the syndicated feed [livejournal.com profile] plaincheese!

I'm going to try to post one doodle a day. So there'll be some images, but I'll try and cut NWS/hyooge stuff. Or maybe I'll switch to a thumbnail/'read more' system. I dunno.

Random comics-related blather shall still live here, for the most part. It's way easier to post off-the-cuff things through LJ.
ktjayne: (hmm)
(I will try not to make my next EPIC MASTERPIECE 800 daggone pixels wide. Doesn't mean I'll LJ-cut that last one, though. LOOK UPON MY WORKS, YE MIGHTY, AND GIVE A HELL YEAH)

(...I should get out more.)
